This Early 1940s Formal Dress for Evenings and Weddings Sewing Pattern was first published by The New York Pattern Company ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Originally the pattern was described as "Dress for evening, graduation, weddings. High neck with slashed opening at back of neck, attached collar in two sections; perforated for sweetheart neck. Short sleeves, long sleeves perforated for 3/4 sleeves. Attached two-piece gathered skirt perforated for shorter-length and trimming band. " The pattern includes embroidery stitches from the 1920s. We have searched extensively but have not been able to find an exact release date for this pattern. 3 variation of dress can be made from this package, each with contrasting collar. One verison is a shorter-length dress with 3/4 sleeves, the second version is a shorter-length dress with long sleeves and, finally, a floor-length short sleeved dress. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This dress pattern is for a early 1940s woman who is Size 16 with a 34" (86cm) bust. This is the only size of this pattern we offer. The pattern envelope, written instructions and pattern pieces are unedited. Illustrations have been added by Saundra Altman, our founder. There are 7 pieces in this set. Seams allowances are 3/8". ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Fabric required: 3-7/8 Yds. 36" wide. Evening dresses from the early 1940s similar to this were made of rayon crepe, printed crepes, faille, alpaca, jersey, satin, net, novelty crepes, bengaline, matelassé, and novelty cottons; the common colors were white, black, bright red, light blue, rose pink, wine, royal blue, and light aqua. ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ The envelope has a copy of the original New York Pattern Co artwork on the front cover. On the back cover are the description of the finished garment, a sizing chart, a pattern diagram and material requirements charts. Inside the envelope are another pattern diagram, Saundra's written and illustrated instructions on building the garment and historical notes on The New York Pattern Company.
